Who this course is for

  • Students and school leavers who want a first programming language that leads somewhere.
  • Graduates in any field who want to add coding and data skills to their CV.
  • Office workers who spend hours on repetitive spreadsheet or file tasks.
  • Creatives and entrepreneurs who want to understand how software is built.

No previous experience is needed. If you already know the basics, tell us on the application form and we will place you in the right group.

What you will be able to do

  • Read and write clean Python using variables, functions, loops and data structures.
  • Work with files, CSV and JSON, and handle errors properly.
  • Analyse a dataset with pandas and present findings in clear charts.
  • Automate a real, repetitive task with a Python script.
  • Call web APIs and use third-party libraries safely.
  • Use Git and GitHub to track your work and share a portfolio.

Curriculum

Eight modules that build on each other, from first steps to a finished capstone project.

  1. Getting set up and thinking like a programmer

Install Python and VS Code, use the terminal, and learn variables, numbers, strings and how a program runs line by line.

  2. Making decisions and repeating work

Conditions, loops and functions. You learn to break a problem into small steps and to debug when things break.

  3. Organising data

Lists, dictionaries, sets and tuples, plus comprehensions. You build a small command-line tool that stores and searches records.

  4. Files, errors and packages

Read and write CSV and JSON files, handle exceptions, install packages with pip and keep projects tidy with virtual environments.

  5. Working with data

Load, clean and summarise data with pandas, then turn the results into charts with matplotlib.

  6. Automation and APIs

Write scripts that rename and sort files, generate reports and call web APIs with the requests library.

  7. Working like a developer

Git and GitHub, readable code, code review with your mentor and a first look at automated tests with pytest.

  8. Capstone project

Plan, build, document and present a project of your own choosing to the cohort and mentors.

Projects you will build

Real work for your portfolio, reviewed by your mentor.

Personal budget tracker

A command-line app that records spending, categorises it and summarises each month.

Data story

Clean a public dataset and present three clear findings with charts.

Office automation script

Turn a slow, manual task, such as merging spreadsheets, into a one-click script.

Python Programming course FAQ

More questions? WhatsApp or call +254 782 137 201, or email enroll@jdstudios.africa.

Is Python a good first programming language?

Yes. Python reads almost like plain English, so you spend your energy on solving problems rather than fighting syntax. It is also widely used for automation, data analysis, web back ends and AI, so the skills carry into many careers.

Do I need to be good at maths?

No. You need basic arithmetic and a willingness to think step by step. The data module uses simple averages and percentages, which we explain as we go.

Do I need my own laptop?

Regular access to a computer helps a lot, especially for online learners. If access is a barrier, tell us when you apply and we will talk through the options.

What will I have at the end?

A GitHub profile with your three course projects and your capstone, plus the confidence to keep learning on your own. Strong learners are introduced to apprenticeship and freelance opportunities where we have them.

Can I learn online from outside Nairobi?

Yes. The course runs in person in Nairobi, fully online or as a hybrid. Choose your format on the application form.
